Prepare the bucket under the valve and when ready, use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut that connects the shut-off valve to the water supply pipe, make sure the wrench tightly grasps the nut and start turning counter-clockwise gently.

Be careful when repairing to not use excessive force, as you could damage the pipe or the valve.
