The way the coffee drip works is water travels through the rubber tubes through a metal pipe getting heated.

The water can't travel upward so it gets stuck around the temperature regulator where it boils. Once boiled the steam pushes the remaining water left up the tube into the coffee pot.

This process repeats over and over again until the switch closing the circuit opens up again
