- | [* icon_ |
- | [* |
+ | [* icon_note] ***This step is for advanced users, or users who want a filesystem other then what the Simple format window gives you. If you have formatted the drive under the Simple menu, you do not need to do this.*** |
+ | [* icon_note] This step is not required for new flash drives. You can format the drive if you want but you do not have to format it unless you choose to. It is a good idea to format used drives, since these can have filesystem problems, and often do. ***This step will destroy the contents on the drive, so make a backup of the drive if you need the contents.*** |
[* black] Open up Disk Management on your computer. On Windows 7, right click Computer and then Manage or search Computer Management. For Win8.x, search Computer Management in the Modern UI. For Win10, you should be able to right click Computer and find Manage to bring Computer Management up.
[* red] Select Disk Management, and then select the flash drive. Use the drive letter you seen in Windows explorer to find it.
[* orange] Right click the flash drive, and select ***Format...*** to format the drive. This will trigger a warning you will lose all data on the drive, and ask if you want to continue. Click ***Yes***. |
