[title] Remove the battery
[* black] Insert an opening pick in to the gap between the battery housing and the battery at the side opposite the battery cable.
[* black] Slide the opening pick under the battery and lift up to pry the battery off of its housing.
[* icon_caution] Make sure you push ***underneath*** the battery and not ***into*** it. Take care not to puncture or bend the battery with your tool—a punctured or bent battery may leak dangerous chemicals or cause a thermal event.
[* icon_note] In case you have trouble to pry up the battery with an opening pick you can try to use a spudger instead as seen in [link|https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/njVc3AfYRNFtkOXu.full%7C|this picture|new_window=true]. When working with a spudger take extra care not to bend the battery.
[* icon_note] If you encounter significant resistance, pause and heat the adhesive further.
[* black] Remove the battery.
[* icon_caution] Do not reuse the battery after it has been removed, as doing so is a potential safety hazard. Replace it with a new battery.
[* icon_reminder] It is likely you can reuse the old adhesive with the new battery. If you wish to replace the adhesive instead, remove the old adhesive and wipe away any adhesive residue with a lint-free cloth and high-concentration isopropyl alcohol.
