Introduction
This set of instructions covers the Apple Powerbook 190/5300 Seriess hard drive removal and replacement. Apple’s Service Source document is navigated to demonstrate and simplify this procedure, and is referenced below. The procedure specifics can be found under the “Take Apart” section (slide 72), pages 40-44 (slides 112-116). The document is attached in the “Details” tab. This procedure should be performed for the replacement of a faulty or inoperable hard drive; including but not limited to data cable damage, or power cable damage. The user may also want to remove their hard drive to secure their data from compromise.

This device contains the highest voltage of any Powerbook (to date)of its time, and requires precaution. Remove the battery and power adaptor before the procedure. Also remove the floppy drive, keyboard, RAM card, clutch covers, and palm rest. Of these prerequisite removals, only the battery and keyboard are covered by Ifixit guides; the remaining part removals can be directly sourced to Apple’s Service Source document (attached).
