Introduction |
In this guide, we will be looking at adjusting the trimpots on the PS1 SCPH-5501 Fat model. The reason I am doing this is to show you how to get some extra life out of a failed Fat PS1. It is quite common for the laser assembly to just stop working on these. If your unit went this long before the laser quit, consider yourself very lucky. A lot of these died earlier then this.
This model has a piece of crap laser assembly. No replacement will ever bring the unit back long term, so do not replace itavoid replacement if you can. Adjust itYou are better off doing an adjustment to get some extra playmore time out offrom it, and then use this time to look for a SCPH-100 series(White) , 7000 Grey or 9000 Grey series model. All of these hold up a lot better then the 5000 series ever did.
I have attached a SCPH-5501 and a '''unmodified''' SCPH-101 test to prove this is beating a dead horse level. |
