The battery powers the Chromebook. A non functioning battery will not hold power, no matter how long the device has been plugged in and charging for.
Before beginning, make sure the Chromebook is disconnected from and external power source and press and hold power button for at least five seconds prior to dismantle to release any stored energy that could potentially be harmful.
In some extreme cases, battery may swell if damaged. Do not touch swollen or punctured batteries. Contact your local battery recycling facility in case of harmful battery damage.
