  1. Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Assess the damage: crwdns2935265:01crwdnd2935265:01crwdnd2935265:02crwdne2935265:0 Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Assess the damage: crwdns2935265:01crwdnd2935265:02crwdnd2935265:02crwdne2935265:0
    • Locate the hole.

    • Don't pull out any emerging feathers! Use a finger or pointed tool to push the feathers back inside the hole.

    • If a feather is emerging, but there isn't a tear in the fabric, follow this guide to pull feathers back into a down jacket.

  2. Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Clean the area: crwdns2935265:02crwdnd2935265:01crwdnd2935265:02crwdne2935265:0 Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Clean the area: crwdns2935265:02crwdnd2935265:02crwdnd2935265:02crwdne2935265:0
    • Remove any old tape or home repairs.

    • Use rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball to clean the area and remove any tape residue, dirt, and grime.

    • Let the jacket dry completely.

    • The area must be completely dry before applying the Tenacious Tape® patch.

    • Optionally, use an adhesive eraser to remove any stubborn duct tape residue.

  3. Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Cut out the patch: crwdns2935265:03crwdnd2935265:01crwdnd2935265:03crwdne2935265:0 Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Cut out the patch: crwdns2935265:03crwdnd2935265:02crwdnd2935265:03crwdne2935265:0 Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Cut out the patch: crwdns2935265:03crwdnd2935265:03crwdnd2935265:03crwdne2935265:0
    • Use sharp scissors to cut a shape out of the Tenacious Tape® that's large enough to cover the hole and overlap it by at least half an inch (~13 mm) all the way around.

    • Round the corners of the patch because sharp edges tend to get caught and peel up.

    • Check that the patch is cut to the right size.

    • Multiple patches can be overlapped to cover a large tear or a unique shape, like an L. Ensure each patch overlaps by at least half an inch (~13 mm).

  4. Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Apply the patch: crwdns2935265:04crwdnd2935265:01crwdnd2935265:03crwdne2935265:0 Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Apply the patch: crwdns2935265:04crwdnd2935265:02crwdnd2935265:03crwdne2935265:0 Patch an Insulated Jacket with Repair Tape, Apply the patch: crwdns2935265:04crwdnd2935265:03crwdnd2935265:03crwdne2935265:0
    • Check again that the cut patch is the right size for the hole.

    • Peel off the backing and carefully apply the patch over the hole, making sure to keep fingers clear of the sticky back of the patch.

    • Use tweezers to aid in peeling the backing off of smaller patches.

    • Use your fingers to smooth out any bubbles and apply pressure to the patch.

    • If the hole goes all the way through the jacket, repeat this process to place a piece of tape on the other side.

    • GARMENT CARE: Wait 24 hours for the glue on the patch to cure before putting it through a laundry cycle, otherwise the tape will fall off in the washing machine.

    • INSULATION TYPES: Be mindful of the type of insulation when patching. A down jacket with a large tear will require special care to save as many feathers from escaping as possible. Synthetic insulation is more forgiving and emerging pieces can be snipped away.

    • ALTERNATIVE REPAIRS: This repair is a great for those in a pinch (a hole in a down jacket in the middle of winter!). While it's not a permanent repair, it can last for up to 60 washes if applied properly.

I have now put four or five tenacious tape patches on my son's down sweater (9 year old are tough in VT). But now it is very dirty. Can I wash it like I would if it didn't have the tenacious tape - or do i need to do something different?

Hylah - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

Hi Hylah, Yes you can wash your jacket and if the patches are starting to peel a little after 7 years you have some options. 1) Contact Patagonia Burlington Store and ask for some more patches, each store has a variety of patches, zipper sliders, Zipper pulls, snaps, buttons to help with easy repairs. 2) Send it to us for Repair, you could take it to the store or start the process on-line . https://www.patagonia.com/returns.html

sheilaym1 - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

Hi Sheilaym 1, Everything we make can be washed, Cold water Low tumble dry. It's good to wash your shells every once in a while to remove dirt and oils.

Marty Chapman -

I've found super glue works pretty well and doesn't show the down.

Have you seen this product? "'''fixmytear'''". It's a repair tape which sticks very well to vinyl, canvas, rubber, leather and most other surfaces. Apply it to both sides if you can for extra strength. Absolutely life saving tape.

Nooooonono. Send it to Patagonia! They will fix it for you or even replace it with something new.

You are welcome.

@debshalcrow Thanks for your comment, but these guides were made in conjunction with Patagonia to help users. This guide can help patch a leak so you can get back outside and on with your adventure without having to wait 4-5 weeks for Patagonia’s repair team to return your jacket. Also, repairing something yourself adds personality and history to your jacket. There are fun shaped tape patches available, as well as a guide on how to do the full baffle sewing repair, to help make the repair easy to do. As Patagonia shares via Worn Wear, repaired and reused is better than new. https://wornwear.patagonia.com/

I have a Patagonia pullover windbreaker from 1991. Has a kangaroo style zipper pocket in the front. The pocket fabric is netting basically and has weakened creating a few holes over the years. In addition a dog tried to attack and bite my arm leaving a tear the size of a quarter on a sleeve. Is the Tenacious Tape the best way to go to repair these holes? If so, wondering if I’ll need to apply a patch on both sides of the fabrics?

Patty Ka'iakapu - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

Can you use this tape with a Patagonia fuzzy sweater?

Susan Crayne - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

I have a nano puff jacket with a small tear (about 0.5cm) near one of the cuffs. Am I better patching it myself or sending in to get repaired? Is the repair done by yourselves likely to be a similar patch?

Douglas Atkinson - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

Hey Douglas! I think you could easily do an adhesive patch yourself if you like the aesthetic of it! But now that's its getting warmer, its also a really good time to send it in to Patagonia. They will do a sewn patch, not an adhesive one.
