The touchpad (or also known as trackpad) is an essential component of a laptop and tracks the motion and position of a user’s fingers to a position on the screen. A functioning touchpad is important to the portability of a laptop, and if your touchpad is unresponsive, you may need to use an external mouse to use your device. A failing touchpad may exhibit the following symptoms:
- Cursor isn’t responding to touchpad movements.
- Cursor is slow to respond to touchpad movements.
- Cursor is jumping to every movement.
If your laptop is having a difficult time tracking your movements or if your trackpad is unresponsive, it may be time to replace the touchpad in your device. Follow these steps to remove and replace the touchpad in your Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5-1570 laptop.

Remove the ten 5 mm Phillips #00 screws that are holding the back panel on.

Use a spudger to pry open the back case at the two hinge cutouts.

Gently use the plastic opening tool around the edges of the laptop to pry up the clips holding the rest of the back panel.

Once all the clips have been disengaged, lift off the back cover.

Remove the two 5 mm Phillips #00 screws that secure the battery in place.

Using your fingers, grasp the entire bundle of wires to pull the battery cable from its connector. This will cut off power to the motherboard.

Remove the battery from the device.

Using the plastic opening tool, unlock the four ZIF connectors to release the flat cables.

Disconnect the four flat cables from the motherboard.

Using the JIS #000 screwdriver, remove six 2mm screws holding the trackpad down to the device.

Using the plastic opening tool, remove the silver piece of tape holding the touchpad to the device.

Insert the plastic opening tool underneath the touchpad.

Lift it up and remove the touchpad from the device.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
