    • Pry the spudger under the black latch and lift gently. The ribbon will release easily.

    • There is a loop of tape to the bottom right of the silver plate.

    • Slide the tip of the spudger inside the loop of tape and pry upward while removing the yellow plate with your other hand.

The loop of tape is attached by some adhesive to a small pad below the loop, I was able to remove this piece without putting anything inside the tape, but rather by going under the whole loop of tape.

There's also a piece of black tape at the left edge of the silver plate, visible in this picture. You could remove it to completely detatch the plate but full removal is not necessary for the next step, as long as you can access the space underneath.

    • Using tweezers, remove the cylindrical gear from the camera.

If you don't have tweezers, you can also do this by turning the unit upside-down and jostling it with your finger or a tool, but part of the lens apparatus will also swing down.

    • Place the spudger on the outermost surface of the lens and push in. This will extend your camera lens.

This guide also allows you to compress an extended lens. The gear "locks" the lens extension mechanism in place, and removing it, then rotating the base (outer layer) from the outside, will allow it to retract back into the camera.

Thank you for the guide, extremely helpful.

wd 40 helps

spray it on the jamed lens

and it will open and close

aurelianporumb -

I forgot my login information on the old account used to write the guide but:

Do NOT use wd 40 on the jammed lens cap. Getting any of it on the lens itself can severely harm the optics and essentially ruin the camera.

John -

What do you do when you push the lens out?

Kaseson - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0

That was excellent, thanks for the step by step, just not easy to find all of the screwdrivers. Eventually, I did, cost a few bucks, but it was interesting to do.
