This method is fine if you you have a fully functioning Kindle. If you are locked in a start loop, ie can’t get to a full start up. power off the kindle, wait 40 sec, push and hold power on button and the left (volumn down) button until the Options list appears. use the up vol button to select down the list highlighting the selection. initiate the selection with a push of the power button. I suggest a soft reset before a reset to factory, and back up your data usually on a removable chip, and remove it prior to reset.
