Background
TiVo units are mainly used to record television shows to a Digital Video Recorder, or DVR. Subscribers to the TiVo service have access to a large, updated schedule of shows. You can set up the TiVo to record shows and it will also try to record shows based on shows that you have watched before.
So far, three series of TiVo units have been made. The TiVo Series 2 was released in 2006, features DVR capabilities and was the first TiVo to have USB ports.
Identification
You can find the model number (TCD540080) on the TiVo Series 2 on the back of the device. Find the tag on the left side; look for where it says "Model No. TCD540080" above the "AC ~ IN" port.
