Blinking lights when power button is pressed

• Disconnect the AC charger.
• Remove the screws on the bottom panel and carefully pry off the bottom cover.
• Disconnect the main battery cable from the motherboard.
• With the battery and charger disconnected, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain all residual capacitance from the board.
• Leave the main battery unplugged, connect the AC charger to the laptop, and press the power button.

If your computer now boots up normally on AC power, your battery has a failed and needs to be replaced. If it still blinks 5 times without the main battery connected, the BIOS may be locked.

• Disconnect the AC charger.
• Locate the small coin-cell CMOS battery on the motherboard If that still does not work, check the RAM..
• Carefully unplug the CMOS battery connector from the motherboard.
• Wait 5 minutes, plug the CMOS connector back in, reconnect the AC charger, and try to turn it on.

Your computer may turn itself on and off 2 or 3 times as it rebuilds the default BIOS settings. If it still blinks 5 times then you do want to make sure that your RAM is properly inserted. Remove the RAM and firmly re-insert it back into the slot, pressing down until the clips snap back into place. If you have two sticks of RAM try booting with only one stick.

If none of that worked you are most likely looking at a failed motherboard. You can try and see if schematics etc. are available for your motherboard. For that you will need to know the exact model of that motherboard. It will be printed on the board itself. Of course, you will need to know how to read schematics and have the tools and skills to perform a boardlevel repair.
