Bose Updater Firmware Update Fails

I have a SoundLink Mini 2 that is stuck in battery protection mode. It has older firmware version 1.0.11. When trying to use the Bose updater to update the firmware it fails with: "not_updatable_failure" and the error log shows: "Error, Token missing for request GET /updater/getCurrentDevicesConnected?pids=-1 HTTP/1.1"

Any fix for this besides sending it in to Bose?
