Diagnostics code PPP007 with MagSafe and USB-C
Hi all,
My 2021 MBP M1 Max has been unstable recently. Main symptom is the battery not holding charge well, but I've also gotten a few weird crashes including a green or pink screen for a second before shutting down. Used to hold charge for days, now its a few hours at best.
I mostly use the USB-C port to charge (plugged into a Dell external monitor with 90W USB-C port).
I ran the diagnostic yesterday and I'm getting the PPP07 code, both with USB-C charging and MagSafe. Battery health is "Normal", with 80% capacity.
Is there anything I can do to narrow down the issue before bringing it in to an Apple store, etc.? I'm reasonably handy.
Thanks!

@irl the PPP07 code means the Mac isn't reading the power adapter correctly. Since this happens on both MagSafe and USB-C it seems that your chargers are fine and the issue is internal. Disconnect the Dell monitor and all other peripherals. Run the laptop strictly on battery, then recharge using the original Apple MagSafe charger. Third-party USB-C displays can interfere with power management and trigger these crashes
Also, try and run the App coconutBattery and copy the results of that to your question. It'll give us a better idea of what is going on with your battery.
One other thing I suggest is that you check the panic logs. Those should confirm if it is just a failing battery or if the logic board's charging circuitry has issues. Open the Console app and look under "Crash Reports" or "Log Reports" for a file starting with "panic". That log should point to the exact sensor or power rail that maybe causing the crash. Copy that text to your question as well.

Thanks, will do! Just to clarify, do you mean disconnect the monitor and peripherals and run the diagnostic again? Or just...not use those things ever??

@irl1177 disconnect and run the diagnostics without it. Let's see what it shows. Keep in mind that "Third-party USB-C displays can interfere with power management and trigger these crashes". Apple likes Apple chargers and does not like anybody else :-)
