New 3DS XL constant error screen

I tried to boot up my 3DS after 1-2 years since I last touched it, when plugged into a charger the charging light only shows up after 10-20 minutes of charging, once I turn it on it works for a few minutes and then starts stuttering and finally freezes at the "An error has occurred" screen, holding the power button doesn't turn it off unless I take the battery out. The blue light goes off briefly before coming back on just before the error screen shows up.

So I've swapped the battery, disabled the wifi, removed the SD card but the error screen still shows up after working for 1-2 minutes

Hi!

First: Is the New 3DS XL modded?

Try to get in the recovery menu with doing the following:

turning off the console and holding down L + R + A + D-Pad Up while pressing the power button

Does it work now? If yes, try to update the console and see what happens.

Since it does work for a few minutes, it does sound like software/firmware issues.

Hi, after updating and leaving it on for about 1 hour it seems like it worked, It stopped freezing!

Booting into the recovery mode to update was one of the options I had in mind but I was afraid it'd freeze mid-update but I decided to risk it.
