If the dent was from dropping it, damage may have rendered it inoperative. While sturdy, electronics cannot withstand sudden impacts like dropping one onto a hard surface. Sometimes we win, other times we lose. Unless you're willing to disassemble it to evaluate any physical damage like broken wiring or a cracked circuit board, there may not much you can do unless you're willing to seek professional services that can evaluate whether or not it's worth repairing.
