How to resolve "No Signal" issue?

Hi All,

I have an LG 46LD550. Whenever I power it on the display just shows the LG logo and says "No Signal". I have tried power cycling the TV - that didn't work. I reset the TV to factory settings - that didn't work.

I connected my laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable and it can see the TV no problem. I configured the Display settings so my laptop is the Primary and to Mirror the image to the TV. However, when I choose the HDMI port the cable's connected to it says "Connecting" for a few seconds and then returns to saying, "No Signal". I have tried all 4 HDMI ports on the TV and the result is the same with each.

I asked a friend about it and he said he's never had an issue getting any HDMI cable to send a video signal from a laptop to a TV. Still, I can't help but think there's some sort of incompatibility going on because I highly doubt all 4 of the HDMI ports on this TV are bad.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue?

Hi @bodrey

Did you try using a different known working HDMI cable, you never mentioned whether you did or not?

Have you tried other signal input connection types beside HDMI e.g. RF, Component video, Composite video (AV) or even a different signal source e.g. dvd player or another computer (using HDMI) to see if there was a display shown on the screen?

This is just to prove that the problem is just TV HDMI input related and not other signal input types as well or whether the problem is with your laptop.

If you determine that it is only when using HDMI (regardless of HDMI cables used) and if it happens with any device connected to the TV using HDMI then most likely there's a problem on the main board in the TV as this is where the HDMI controller is located.

Hi Jayeff,

No, I haven't tried a different HDMI cable. That said, the HDMI cable I'm using is brand new - I just bought it the other day. Now, it's a dollar store HDMI cable, and I don't know if they have a reputation for being DOA (Defective On Arrival).

I haven't tried any other inputs yet but this TV does have a couple USB inputs. So, I'm going to see if it recognizes a thumb drive and try to play a video with it. I also tried connecting a different laptop to it and the result was the same.

If USB works but HDMI doesn't then I suspect the HDMI controller is defective.

@bodrey first tou need to determine if your TV works with any other input source. Other than your laptop.

I'm going to test it using a thumb drive, see if it recognizes it and allows me to play a video file. I'll let you and Jayeff know if it works.
