Repair, disassembly, and troubleshooting information for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 4G smartphone released on December 1st, 2021. Identified by model number 2201117TG.

My volume button just fell off.

The volume slider fell off and i have to pop it back in. When I press the volume down, the upper part pops out. Does everybody know how to fix this? If possible, I don't wanna spend money to fix it.

1. The "Deep Clean" Check

Before trying to snap it back, look inside the slot on the side of the phone and at the back of the button itself.

  • The Slot: Use a toothpick or a dry toothbrush to make sure there isn't a tiny piece of lint or sand stuck in the corner. Even a microscopic crumb can prevent the button from sitting flush.
  • The Button: Look at the back of the plastic slider. You should see tiny plastic "hooks" or tabs. If one of these is bent outward, gently push it back to its original position with your fingernail.

2. The Proper "Snap-In" Technique

Most people try to push one side in first, which is why it pops out. Try this instead:

  1. Align the button perfectly over the hole.
  2. Press down firmly in the exact center of the button first, rather than the ends.
  3. While holding the center down, slide your finger toward the "Volume Up" and then "Volume Down" ends to see if the clips catch.
  4. You should hear or feel a very faint click when the center retaining tab grabs onto the internal frame.

3. The "Thin Tool" Assist

If the button won't stay, one of the internal silicone flaps might be folded over.

  • Take a very thin, flat object (like a sewing needle or a thin plastic shard from a food container).
  • Insert the button as best you can.
  • Use the needle to gently "tuck" the edges of the button under the lip of the phone's frame while you press down.

4. The DIY "Shim" (If the clips are broken)

If you look at the button and the tiny plastic hooks are actually snapped off, it won't stay in on its own. To fix this for free:

  • The Paper Trick: Cut a tiny, microscopic sliver of paper (about the size of a grain of rice). Fold it and wedge it into the side of the button hole before putting the button in. This creates "friction" to hold the button in place.
  • Tape: If you have any clear tape at home, you can put the button in and place a tiny strip over it. It’s not pretty, but it keeps the button from falling out in your pocket.
