Released in North America in November 2006, the Wii was Nintendo's first home console to directly support Internet connectivity, supporting both online games and digital distribution of games and media applications through the Wii Shop Channel.

Disc Drive Laser (3350) Has a functioning laser but wont read

Opening up several drives today and all of them seem to have a functioning laser that moves, however they still errored. I read that it may be a calibration issue, just wondering if anyone has any insight on this problem or any other issues that could be causing the error. Going to buy a multimeter now and then test for calibration. Wish me luck

Sorry for asking so many questions recently but is something like this worth it. I have no experience dealing with aliexpress dealers however I don't see the anti-static solder blob you're describing which I can see in other offerings.

Hi Jacob!

Usually they do not need calibration.

The lasers are known to fail…. Replacing is your best bet to get the drives fixed.

When I need to replace the laser for a Wii (whenever it is the 3350 or 3355) they work straight out the box.

I just need to remove the anti-static solder blub. Make sure you do this as well! The solder blub is on the ribbon cable. Not on the laser it self.

Thank you, I figured the lasers would just need to be replaced, these are all launch day wiis so I’m glad it’s just the laser that needs replacing.

For the anti static blob is it something that needs to be removed with a solder pen ? There was something on the oem ribbon that looked almost like a screw is that normal ?

Looking at the price of the laser is it even worth replacing the laser on its own, seems like its only a couple more dollars for a whole disc drive....

Hi Jacob!

Yes then they need to be replaced.

No, there is no screw on the ribbon cable, so this must be the solder. You need to remove it with a soldering iron yes…

If you can buy a new drive for just a few dollars more, I would buy that. Then everything (should ) be refurbished, but you never know for sure… a new laser is all you need actually.

If you have any more questions, please let me know!
