Washer makes a cycling noise when not in use.

After finishing a wash cycle and removing the clothes the machine sounds like it is attempting to cycle. Start/pause button unresponsive and no lights are on. Unplugged to stop the noise. Plug it back in and the noise starts again with no lights and unresponsive start button. Tried reset and get no response.
