2014 Ford Escape needs a new catalytic converter. Advice?

Hi there, we have a 2014 Ford Escape , 1.6L titanium package with 78k miles. It has had a P0420 check engine light come up intermittently the last few years but has gotten more frequent recently and started to smell. We're going to replace the catalytic converter but I am unsure if there is a big difference between using an OEM cat (CV6Z-5E212-F) or if a magnflow (21-478) will be just as good? OEM is about $900 + a $500 core charge and the mangaflow is about $800. Also is FordPartsGiant.com a reputable site?

Of course any opinion you get is going to be subjective, which is why iFixit prefers we don't make recommendations on websites or repair services.

That being said, a few years ago I had to replace the cat on my 1999 VW beetle, and I went with a Magnaflow. The one I got was more of a universal fit, so it had to be welded in, but other than that, I had no further performance issues with the exhaust system for the remaining life of the car. So I can personally recommend the Magnaflow brand; they've been around for a long time and seem to know what they're doing since they specialize in exhaust systems. If it was me, I'd save my money and go with them, but of course it's up to you.
