Right fan spinning after water spill on MacBook

Hello!

I have a Macbook Pro 16" 2021 model. My cat has spilled a glass of water behind the laptop, so a bit of it, I guess few drops went into the fan exhaust on the back.

I immediately turned it off and let it dry. That evening I ordered a screwdriver to take the back off. 2 days later day I took the back off and didn't see any water left, so I turned it on, but after like 30-40 minutes of using it fans were spinning crazy so I turned it off and let it air dry for 3 more days.

Now I did a diagnose and i have the following issues:

  • There may be an issue with the Power Port (PPP020)
  • There may be an issue with the fan (PPF003, PPF004, PPF001)

But when I turn it on and use normally, even charge it, everything seems to work properly. Also it dropped the charging a few days ago, so I plugged the charging cable off and plugged it back in and it was charging fine again.

I decided to tinker with the fan speed, and what I've figured out is that if the right fan reaches max speed, it won't go down, only if I reboot the machine. The left fan works fine.

So my question is, what are my options to repair? Am I able to fix this on my own? Do I just need to clean something with 99% alcohol, or do I have to switch some component too?

Thanks in advance!

You stated the right fan is stuck as full blast, was this the side that got the spill? How are you charging your system via the MagSafe port or USB-C port? And if USB-C the left or right side (side with the MagSafe or not)

I think both sides got some spill, maybe the right side got more. I was charging it with MagSafe.

Oh and it's not stuck at full blast! It's only stuck at max when I do something demanding and it goes up to max. Then it won't go down no matter what

@bolha - OK, so it's working correctly then? The issue then is the other fan as they should on the most part be about equal in RPM.

Then are you encountering an issue on one side Vs the other? As far as charging via the USB-C ports? As the errors you got are related to the power aspects of the ports.

The fan speed doesn't match.

When I crank them up in Macs Fan Control (or the PC gets a heavy load because I'm gaming or something - didn't really tried this that much tho, I am a bit afraid :D) the fans spin up. When the load is smaller, the fan speed should decrease or stop completely. The issue is that the right fan doesn't lower its speed, it stays on max speed - also it's higher than the left one, while testing the max of left was 4300 RPM and the right one was around 6800! When I reboot the laptop, it resets to 0 and works properly again.

Also I tested the C ports with an USB hub and they seem to work.

Also, I made a stupid mistake, I ran the diagnostics without plugging the laptop in. Now I ran it plugged in, and the Power Port error disappeared. Sorry :D
