Released November 2016, the PS4 Pro features upgraded hardware for 4K gaming and improved PSVR performance.

Needing 4 pin PSU - motherboard cable for 300ER psu

One end of the cable smells like burnt plastic, but for the life of me, I can't smell any other area burnt or see fire damage. I was playing Days gone after I reapplied thermal paste and cleaned it spotless, and about half an hour playing, I saw a multi colours on the screen before it shutdown, and could smell something burnt. Would it be safe to try putting it back together and try playing again? It works fine, just shuts down during Days gone. Also the fan is so quiet I had to remove the cover to see if it was still spinning.

Thank you all.

Hi!

I doubt that replacing the cable will solve the multiple colors… can you show a video about this?

Do other games work fine??

Regarding the cleaning, you did applied new thermal paste, right?

The issue you are describing is more related to the HDMI port or HDMI IC or any other small component on the motherboard which failed.

If that is the only game having issues, it’s more like software related.

Just to be sure, I would replace the HDMI cable as well. If you want, you can replace the 4 pin cable for the PSU as well, those are easy to find and are cheap.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Hi there,

Thank you for responding. The multicoloured happened so fast, then shut down. I don't know when or if it would happen again.

I just reapplied thermal paste, thermal pads (what a pain). I want to turn the machine on to try it but am worried about a fire. I haven't put it back together since the incident. Not sure if I mentioned I turned it on one other time before,(the same day), but only played Evil within 2 for about 10-15 minutes before Days gone for 20 minutes (at that time). I also plugged a new HDMI cord in, but because I haven't turned it on since, not sure if that will make a difference.

Do you think if I put it back together, there's a risk of fire, or damaging it? Probably try a less intensive game for an hour or so, or as long as it'll let me. Lol. Just not sure if there's a risk or not.

Hi!

As long as you did applied new thermal paste, you should be fine. Be sure to follow the steps of the guide carefully and do tighten the screws enough for the backplate (do not tighten the screws too much). You can replace the 4 pin cable just to be sure.

The risk of fire is very low if you have followed the steps accordingly! I would just test it and see how it goes!
