Bob, it would help us figure out how to fix your laptop if we could see the damage you're talking about. Can you add a picture of it to your question? This post will help.

i cannot right now, but i will try to explain it more detailed. The cables tip is fine. İt is a roundy shape, with a small white line on it. The gold pins are good. They look at the same direction. And the black-plastic thing might be damaged. But not a serious damage i guess. I will try to explain it:it has pin holes. One of the pin holes bottom is gone. But the else is fine.

Hi Bob,

Okay, looking at some pictures of that connector in the guides, it looks like you've knocked the locking flap off the connector on the motherboard. If you can find that missing flap, there's a fair chance you'll be able to fit it back on the connector.

If it's lost and gone forever, you'll have to figure out another way to secure that cable. Offhand I'd personally be tempted to seat the cable then drop in some low temperature hot glue and hold it in place till the glue cools. The best way would be to replace the lock lever, but you'll have to find a replacement connector online and either scavenge the flap from it, or else replace the connector on board if you're experienced in soldering.

If the fan cable’s connector housing is slightly damaged but the pins are intact, try carefully reseating it—ensure all pins align properly. If it won’t hold firmly, use a small piece of tape or adhesive to secure it temporarily. For a permanent fix, replace the fan or connector assembly.

Over 15 years, I have spent wasted dozens of hours trying to repair the little plastic rectangle which has fallen/ broken off the tip of ribbon cables. I have never had a success which lasted more than a few days. The more time you spend on this, the higher the likelihood of damaging something further. This is a major frustration when the part that is broken is trivial, but the hurdle which manifests is near insurmountable.

  1. give up on that small plastic piece. The solution is not to get that back on the ribbon. The solution is to replace it with something else.

The plastic piece serves to maintain a good connection when the ribbon is in the ribbon socket. It does this by being more rigid than the ribbon, and thicker, while being the same width. The material it is made of is mostly unimportant. You could try using a delicately trimmed square of masking tape, possibly 2 or even 3 layers. Or, a trimmed square of the sticky side of a paper post-it note. Try making your paper rectangle twice the size it needs to be, fold it in half, adhere, gently jam it into the socket.

Failing this, you need a new ribbon cable. If the ribbon is bound to the fan, you need a new fan. It sucks that something so small has such a huge effect on your repair. This is a live and learn lesson that is about as bitter as bitter gets. GOOD LUCK.
