Released November 2020, the PS5 console features vastly upgraded visuals and an innovative new Dualsense controller. The space-age black-and-white color scheme is a noticeable departure from PlayStation designs of the past.

Missing piece reassembling ps5, now overheating

Hi all I recently replaced the power supply on my ps5 but after putting it back together had this little grey piece still outside the ps5 and I am not sure where it came from. Can anyone help out? The PS5 is shutting down every 2 hours now I am guessing maybe due to this piece being critical. Here are a photo of the piece and my ps5. I did not separate the silver cover from the ps5 when replacing the PSU. Thanks for any help.

Hi!

This piece is a piece of EMI foam.

Usually this piece is in the shell near the M.2. SSD slot.

I think this is not causing the issue that your PS5 is turning off after 2 hours.

Did you cleaned the PS5 inside? Does it happen only when you are playing games, or all the time?

It could be that the replacement PSU is faulty, or heat issues.

Thank you! Yes indeed it was that piece and once I googled it I found others with the same issue, it just drops out on some models. I put it back in and it is still overheating. It only overheats I think when playing games. Maybe the Amazon PSU is faulty. The fan is very clean and so is the inside of the PS5. I was thinking maybe I didn't do up screws tightly enough but that seems unlikely too unless it's very sensitive to that sort of thing.

Hi!

Glad that that issue is solved!

Did you replaced the liquid metal?

I would do that first and see how that works out!

You need to tighten the screws good. Make sure it makes good contact. Do no over-tighten them! Please let us know how it goes!
