No Power to computer when plugged in
I just plugged in my MSI GS66 after not being used for over a year. I get no power. I cleaned the power port and it is not clogged. If my battery is completely dead will I get power to the laptop? If not, do I need to replace the battery?
Thanks
Russ

If a laptop battery sits completely discharged for over a year, it may have entered deep discharge or “sleep” mode. Most modern laptops, including MSI, will still power on from AC even if the battery is dead — but there are exceptions:
Some MSI models require the battery to be recognized for the power system to initialize.
If the battery has chemically failed, the laptop may refuse to charge or even turn on.
A deeply discharged or “frozen” battery may short the power circuit, preventing AC-only startup.
So yes — a completely dead battery can prevent the laptop from powering on, depending on the model and condition.
