Actually, it wouldn't be difficult at all.
You CAN find the replacement cables for sale on-line about $10 USD for the ones I found, one is here, but shop around ...
Other than taking it apart and putting it back together, just one screw and a single connector hold the cable in place...
To help you can watch this video video of the tear-down.
The only things to watch out for is damaging the switch membranes, and other parts inside or disturbing the key caps (especially if you pt them back in the wrong place(s) after that. a photo is helpful in fixing that later if needed!
Not to worry, if you are careful to disturb only the parts you need to to replace the cable it shouldn't take more than a few minutes start to finish. You could even take pictures and create your own guide to post here for other folks.
The other option you might consider is repairing your current cable. if you locate the bad part and cut it out then reattach the wires... solder, heatshrink and so on, you can probably save a few bucks. the break is likely to be close to the point the cable enters the keyboard since thats where it usually gets the most force and flexure applied, but might be damaged elsewhere by pinching external force etc. (inspection might help) meters or a simple continuity tester might help too.
You say you're a novice, but simple soldering is pretty easy to pick up. Cost of all you need to do it would not be recovered in a single repair though!
Good Luck.
