Why does an extension cord help

My Dell has an iffy power cord connection with the power supply not being super high quality, leading to iffy/wobbly connections often. This extension cord seems to really help it have a more stable connection, but I'd like to know why because it makes no sense to me. I also plugged into a different outlet.

In my experience when an extension cord gives a better connection it's because the connection there is 'tighter' than the one in the wall outlet or other extension cords, many give a poorer connection, but a few, like the old cheap plastic ones grip the contacts very well.
