Display flickering and glitching

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my MacBook Air display. As you can see in the picture, the screen shows strange horizontal lines and distorted sections. Sometimes the image changes or flickers, but it’s mostly unreadable.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Is it a display issue, a loose cable, or maybe something with the GPU?

Unfortunately, I don’t have the money to replace the display right now, so I’m hoping to find a way to fix or temporarily work around it.

Any advice or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you 🙏

Does the motion of opening or closing the lid have any effect on the display?

No. And the problem appears when there’s a lot of black color.

As you are shifting the active window around and seeing different reactions, I think it's clear the issue is not the display but a problem in the graphics engine within the M Series chip. Sadly this will need a new logic board as the M1 chip is not replaceable on its own. Here's the guide MacBook Air 13" Late 2020 Logic Board Replacement

TheBookYard in the UK offers some cheaper boards MacBook Air Logic boards make sure you get its mated TouchID power button from where ever you located the part.

Sadly, there's nothing you can do to over come the defect, I'm sure an external monitor will also show the problem. Maybe forcing the display into a lower resolution from the default 2560x1600 to one of the scaled resolutions of 1680 by 1050, 1440 by 900, and 1024 by 640.
