Lenovo Thinkbook 15 Identifying unlabeled chip in power circuit

Hello there,

I’m trying to chase down why this laptop isn’t showing a display and I believe the user was using the wrong charger which caused this issue, possibly. Visual inspection shows no damage to the board but chasing down the power lead me to this chip with no label. Any ideas on the name and a replacement?

The computer gives an orange light for the battery and when the power button is pressed it lights up for about 2 seconds then shuts off with no display ever coming on. We are a small marketing business and would like to save money on this computer if possible by not buying a new one. Might be a long shot but worth a try.

@kentstarnes @jayeff looks like a LA-L931P board. That would make it a SN2011060YBGR which is a TI TPS65994AE Dual Port USB Type-C® and USB PD Controller. Datasheet for that is available on here https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tps659...

That would be consistent with the history of using a wrong power supply ;-)

Hi @kentstarnes

What is the model number of the motherboard (printed on the board) e.g. Quanta xxxxxxx or Compal xxxxxxx etc or the full model number of the laptop as shown on the product information label on the bottom of the laptop case?

Best option is to find the schematics for the motherboard using the board model number (or finding which board is used by searching for "Lenovo 15 (insert model number) motherboard", finding the motherboard model from it and then searching as before as this will tell you what type of component it is and its model number. The component's schematic reference ID is U24.

Looking online it appears that there are a few different Thinkpad 15 models and they may not all use the same motherboard

Thanks! Yes, there are a few different models. This one is MPNXB36260C0, ThinkBook 15 G4 IAP. I tried all the normal power down, reset, reset BIOS, etc.
