My Acer Extensa 4420 turns off shortly after it powers on. There are not any signs of beeping, or lights that seem bad. I've re-applied thermal paste, but that does nothing. It does the same thing no matter what power adapter i use, so is there another thing i could try? It has 2gb of DDR2 RAM, (Upgraded) 500GB HDD.

The issue could be RAM, CPU, or motherboard related. First, remove one RAM stick at a time and try booting to rule out faulty memory. Check the HDD connection or try booting without it to see if the system stays on. Inspect the motherboard for bulging capacitors or visible damage. Reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes. If the problem persists, the motherboard or CPU may be failing and likely needs professional replacement.

@themasterg you have checked the RAM (is it soldered or a module?) as well as tried to access the BIOS when you start your computer? Have you checked your HDD by trying to boot from a bootable USB drive? Did this all just start out of nowhere or did anything happen to the computer just before that? Any new hardware or software install? Tried to upgrade the BIOS? Anything?

I don't think thermal paste is going to help if the power won't stay on. How long has this been happening, and when did it start (meaning, did it start randomly, or after some maintenance or something similar)?

@oldturkey03 These problems were happening before I got the computer from my friend. I could try all of the components with another PC I have, so I'll make sure to try that
