Broken CMOS Battery Slot, is it repairable?

Hello everyone, I tried to reset the BIOS on my MSI B550-A PRO but the pins holding the battery did not retract far enough. A little bit of more force freed the battery but ripped the plastic form. While I won't have trouble now doing a reset, unfortunately the battery will not remain secure in the slot as the force of the spring pushes the plastic casing outwards. Now I would like to know if and how I could fix this and how cooked I am.

I would try to find a CMOS battery holder for the given battery that has leads which you can solder onto the broken holder in the system at worse. I would have offered one but I'm not sure which battery you need in this system. Can you tell us the needed battery so we can maybe aim you to a possible solution and maybe a picture of the broken holder as well to try to locate an exact replacement.

@lennart70551 the official CMOS battery holder for your motherboard is a H1X2M_BLACK-RH and MSI pat number is N31-1020151-H06 I just did a "quick and dirty" search for that but those do not seem to be readily available. Since your battery is a standard hook up

you could try and fit another battery holder in its place. Of course, you could also just use a battery that has an external connector. Cut the connector off, connect the ground to ground on your motherboard and connect the positive from that battery directly to R440 (right next to the positive connection of your battery holder).

No matter which way you want to go, all of that will require some soldering.

Post some well focused pictures of the damage etc. with your question. that way we can see what you are up against and hopefully find a viable solution. Adding images to an existing question
