Corrosion on female end of MagSafe?

Hi everyone-

It would appear that after a long time of just answering questions it's my turn to ask a question.

Well so I've noticed that now the female end of the MagSafe connector on my MacBook looks like it has corrosion (or something else) there is discoloration and it looks like the port is "gunked up" or dirty somehow. What I want to no is if anyone can confirm that this is corrosion and/or explain how to clean it. I've heard simple rubbing alcohol and a paper towel will work, but I'm not sure.

I've attached a picture to show the issue.

Thanks for any help whatsoever!

Try contact cleaner and a toothbrush or a stiff solder brush. Ralph

So just hydrogen peroxide in general?

I'm not sure about that product==I always use electronic contact cleaner. You can get it at Radio Shack. Ralph

Do you mean electronic contact cleaner or contacts cleaner? If you mean the former then I'm not sure, but contacts cleaner is generally something along the lines of .02 H2O2

Electronic contact cleaner. Ralph

I have a MacBook that looks just like that- I tried cleaning it with alcohol, but it didn't really work. To be honest, I think it's just discoloration from the magnet rubbing. It doesn't seem to be detrimental at all, so I just left mine alone.

I'm worried about build-up over time though, and I don't think it's discoloration.
