PlayStation one controller disconnecting and reconnecting.

I've been having this weird issue where my controllers will disconnect(no input is registered) for a few seconds before reconnecting and allowing input again. It will do this over and over again.

This is an upgrade from when I used a previous controller and no input was registered at all. Both that controller and this current controller are third party.

Ive tested swapping the controller ports and nothing changed. I've also tried checking the fuses and everything seemed to be okay( It was my first time using a multimeter so I absolutely could have done something wrong).

Any ideas on what to do next? Im leaning towards it being a controller issue and not a console one, but I'm unsure.

UPDATE: got my hands on a working original ps1 controller and still no input. only thing that works is the analog light on the controller

Hi!

So how many controllers did you test? I would test a “broken” controller on a known working Playstation IF possible. Otherwise I would test some other original controllers which are known working and see how that goes.

It’s hard to say at the moment what it could be.. you also swapped the controller ports so that’s good. Could be motherboard related, but not very likely..

@dan0 I tested 2 third party controllers, the first didn't work at all, while the second disconnects and re-connects every few seconds and will also stop completely if you plug in a PSxMemCard.

I'll definitely work on getting an original controller to test on this thing.

I appreciate you responding!

Yeah, I think it’s a controller issue! Would try that first and see how that works out! My pleasure! Please let us know how it goes :)!

Hi! I just saw the update in your post.

At this moment, it must be something on the motherboard, but hard to say which component did fail there... Do you have experience with soldering? Otherwise replacing the motherboard is a good test, but the problem is that they are very hard to find...

@dan0 I have a bit of soldering experience, (a few practice kits and a guitar pedal) so as long as it’s something I can repair or replace with a soldering iron I think I can accomplish it. If not, it gives me a reason to try out that hot air station I bought a few months ago lol.
