The PlayStation 3 Slim is the second version of the PS3 video game console with the original model number CECH-2000. Produced by Sony Computer Entertainment it fixed many issues of the original (fat) Playstation 3. It was released on September 1, 2009.

Disc Feeding / Ejecting Gets Stuck

Problem I'm having

Discs (games and blu-rays) both play properly, but the feeding / eject mechanism only sorta works.

  • Feeding: I have to push the disc 80% of the way in to get it to feed. I can hear the motor before I get to that point, but it does not feed until I put it that far in.
  • Ejecting: It only ejects a little bit out of the console and I have to pull it out ht rest of the way. Similarly, I can hear the motor continue to turn after the disc is ejected.

Guides I've found so far

My questions

I'll probably try taking the system apart and getting to the feeding mechanism to see if I can find anything wrong. I'll also probably dust the system out just in case. But:

  1. Is there anything else (common parts to check, weird gotchas) I should be on the lookout for?
  2. Is there a known cause of this issue (partially feeding / ejecting discs) or similar issues?
  3. If the drive does have a broken part, do I have to replace the whole blu-ray drive or can I replace the small component? I don't see any smaller parts, but I'm also new to the repair scene and don't know where / what to search for.
  4. If I want to clean and lubricate the mechanism, what tools / cleaners do I need? Just isopropyl?

Hi there!

The rollers are the most common thing that fails for the Playstations 4’s.

Did you tried to replace those?

I would try this first before you proceed to try anything else.

Guide: https://youtu.be/OBe67CxinGw?si=SNMKYYJP... (the blue rollers need to be replaced).

It also could be the mechanism, but would try that first.

You can replace just the parts first, if things did break, I would replace the drive.

Just remove all the dust, nothing more need to be done actually, unless you want to clean the laser deck. Then you do need to lubricate the worm motor. All other cleaning can be done with isopropyl alcohol, but BE carefull!

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Thanks! I'll definitely try cleaning out the rollers; that video was useful.

But just a note, this is for a PS3 slim, not a PS4.

Hi RitzyMage!

Oh! I'm sorry! Then I would also check the upper mechanism of the drive. In the worst case, you can replace the drive completely.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
