Valve Steam Controller, released November 10th 2015. Model 1001.

Repair guide for back paddle switches?

I have two steam controllers. One from launch and one from the factory shutting down. Both have issues with the right back paddle switch. You have to press down REALLY hard to get it to register. I love to use that paddle for "jump" so it wears out pretty quickly. Is there any way to fix it? New steam controllers are like $200 apiece. :(

Hi!

Do you mean the big back buttons?

Steam Controller Teardown - iFixit < From step 7?

If yes, those buttons are directly soldered on the motherboard... Replacement would be difficult.

You can find those buttons, but soldering is required. Do you have any experience with soldering?

If yes, you could try to replace it and see how that goes.

Please let me know if you need anything else!

If you mean the triggers then no, if you mean the big circular switches near the battery terminals then yes.

I have plenty of experience with soldering. Just needed to know if its possible to replace them, and if so, a link to the part.

Ah sorry, yes those are visible on the motherboard in step 3.

Those are actually stickers which contains a piece of metal in the middle. I can't find the replacement part, unfortunately. But what you can try,, is to get one of those sticker/buttons of from the motherboard and clean them (make sure you do not remove the little glue residue). Clean the contact on the motherboard (with isopropyl alcohol), then put it back on the motherboard and make sure it's positioned correctly. Then try again.

If it's still failing, maybe you can get a broken (donor) motherboard and get the buttons/stickers from there.

Soldering is not required for this repair.
