Kenmore gas stove not preheating

I can hear it turn on but it doesn’t preheat the top burners work perfectly. What do I need to replace or do? The main burner shows blue flames. And the igniter shows orange glow.

Steps to Diagnose / Fix

  1. Check continuity of the main burner element
    • Use a multimeter to test resistance across the heating element.
    • If the reading is infinite → element is broken, needs replacement.
  2. Inspect wiring
    • Disconnect power and remove the top panel.
    • Check that all connectors to the main burner are secure, no burnt wires.
  3. Check the control board / relay
    • If the element and wiring are fine, the relay that powers the main burner may be faulty.
    • Replacing the relay or control board usually fixes this.
  4. Replacement
    • Most stoves allow you to replace the main heating element as a standalone part.
    • Make sure to get the exact model compatible with your stove.

⚠️ Safety Note

  • Always disconnect power/gas before touching wires or burners.
  • If unsure, have a qualified appliance repair technician handle the control board or gas connections.
