Samsung American style side by side fridge/freezer with water and ice dispenser.

Ice dispenser not working

Hello, the ice dispenser on my fridge/freezer has stopped working. The water dispenser is working correctly and there is ice in the ice make up container in the freezer compartment. The ice should be dispensed by an auger when the ice lever on the front door is pushed backwards, the auger motor is not working. I have checked the microswitch behind the ice lever and tested the wiring from the microswitch to a connector at the top of the door. The auger motor can be turned by hand and I have checked the resistance of the windings. I suspect that there is a fault on the control board located on the top of the appliance. I have been unable to find any circuit diagrams for the fridge/freezer or the control boad. Any suggestions or help finding circuit diagrams would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Andrew

Hi @andrewt93110

Here's a link to a training manual that includes your model that may help.

It can be viewed (with difficulty) by scrolling down through the pages but this will be interrupted by having to wait through ads. You can of course sign up to the site and download it, but I didn't want to do this.

I've copied two pages that may be of interest - see image below.

There are wiring diagrams from p.140 onwards but they're very general as they only show where the different circuits connect to the control board. There are no circuit diagrams for the boards themselves.

Thank you jayeff, this information has been very useful. I located an intermittent connection on the wire from the ice microswitch to the circuit board on the top of the fridge. The wire inside the freezer door is the problem, now it’s completely broken. I ran a temporary cable from the switch to the connector on top of the door and the ice dispenser works. It looks like it’s a case of a new door or no ice. Best regards Andrew

@andrewt93110

Can you still get to the broken end of the wire in the door?

If you can, just wondering if you could connect a new wire to it and then use the existing wire as a draw wire to pull it through.

Good idea, but there’s no movement in the wire, I suspect that the cables are taped or tied together. I have found other people have had the same problem and were unable to pull a new wire through. I have however added a non latching normally open push button on the side of the fridge. I connected it to the grey (common for the microswitches) and light blue (ice switch) at the top of the door. It’s now a 2 handed operation to get ice, push the ice lever and then push the button on the side of the fridge. Problem solved for now.
