Faulty black test print

Anybody know what would cause my black test print to miss every other column. It is a Brother MFC-6890CDW and I have cleaned the heads several times but it still prints the same.

The pattern in your test print means the black printhead is failing. Every other column is missing → half of the black nozzles are either permanently clogged or the driver circuit for them has failed.

Possible causes:

Clogged nozzles: The cleaning cycle didn’t clear them.

Driver failure: Brother heads fire nozzles in groups, so if a driver chip goes bad, you lose every other line.

Permanent printhead damage: Wear or dried ink blocking the nozzles beyond recovery.

What you can try:

1. Run multiple deep cleans, but let the printer rest between cycles.

2. Use dedicated printhead cleaning solution (applied through the ink port with a syringe/tube).

3. If the pattern never changes, the printhead is likely electrically damaged → the only real fix is replacing the head or the whole printer (often the printer is cheaper).

This issue is not caused by the cartridge itself. It’s inside the black printhead.
