FRIGIDAIRE Gallery Countertop Crunchy Chewable Nugget Ice Maker, 44lbs

I have a “FRIGIDAIRE Gallery Countertop Crunchy Chewable Nugget Ice Maker, 44lbs per Day, Auto Self Cleaning, 2.0 Gen” and recently it just stopped working. Well, it turns over and makes the noise, but it doesnt make ice. We cleaned the hose, everything external. Nothing. Im assuming its something internal, but nothing is going on, we just replaced it, but were thinking of returning the new one if we absolutely have too. If we can get this fixed it would be 250 saved. Thank you to anyone with ideas or help.

Failure mode is consistent with the refrigeration side not running. The auger motor and fan may still spin, but no cooling occurs. Common causes in this model:

1. Clogged or failed water pump – If the pump isn’t circulating water over the evaporator plate, no ice can form. You should hear/see water flowing into the ice-making chamber. If not, pump is bad or blocked.

2. Faulty thermistor or sensor – If the control board doesn’t detect the right temps, it won’t initiate freezing.

3. Refrigerant loss or sealed system failure – If the compressor runs but there’s no cooling, refrigerant may have leaked or the compressor is weak. That requires pro service; cost often exceeds replacement.

4. Compressor not starting – If you don’t feel the compressor vibrating or getting warm, check the start relay/capacitor.

Hey, thanks for the reply. It sounds to be turning over, it takes water, and every now and then it makes the startup noise. I cant see anything right now on it but im gonna take it apart later to see if i can diagnose it. It may or may not be making it, but its hard to tell. Thank you however!

If it’s taking in water but not producing ice, focus on two subsystems:

1. Water circulation pump – Confirm water is actually moving across the cold plate. If water just sits in the reservoir, ice will never form.

2. Cooling loop (compressor/evaporator) – After 5–10 minutes powered on, the cold plate should feel cold to the touch. If it stays at room temperature, the refrigeration side is not working.

When you open it later:

Look for water movement in the tray → no movement = pump issue.

Touch the compressor after running a few minutes → warm and vibrating = active; cold and silent = not running.

Check if evaporator plate frosts over → if not, suspect refrigerant loss or compressor failure.

If pump and compressor both work, next likely failure is a bad sensor or control board. If sealed system is at fault, it’s not economical to fix.

What is the model number of the ice maker?
