Why is my xbox series x not turning on?

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my Xbox Series X. When I plug it in, the fan immediately kicks on at very high speed, but the console won’t power on at all when I press the power button. There’s no other response (no lights, no startup sound, nothing).

I’ve already tried switching power cords and outlets, but the problem hasn’t changed.

Does anyone know what might be causing this or what I should check next? I’d really appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks in advance!

That points to a motherboard or power delivery fault, not just the power supply cord. Most common causes:

Short or failure on the APU/SoC → triggers fan max speed fail-safe.

Faulty voltage regulator module (VRM) or capacitor → console never enters normal startup sequence.

Corrupted firmware is less likely, since system doesn’t even reach standby light.

Southbridge/standby power rail failure → power button is never registered.

What you can try:

1. Disconnect console completely for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. Rarely clears latch.

2. Try with all peripherals removed (no HDMI, no USB).

3. If same behavior: the fault is internal. Requires opening unit, checking standby 5 V and 12 V rails, and inspecting board for shorts.

If under warranty → send to Microsoft. If not → board-level repair is required (PSU inside console is usually fine if fan runs).
