MBP mid 2012 Forgotten iCloud password

Hey everyone!

Im here on iFixit for years but it’s my first post, so sorry if something wrong.

I can buy MBP mid 2012 from my friend, she own that mbp for years but doesn’t remember password for icloud.

I have experience with older MBPs like 2010/2011 and iCloud wasn’t problem, just needed to erase HDD and make new mac os.

My question is: will it work with MBP 2012 too?

MacBook isn’t on black list/stolen list, she is 1st owner.

There are three distinct accounts which sit on your system the top most is the user account created via the System's Preferences > Users & Groups these are the ones your drive eraser fixes.

The next is the local systems Firmware lock. That's what you are greeted by if you restart the system with the Lock Icon. Older systems could be bypassed but messing with the RAM sticks or using the original CD/DVD. Sadly, the newer Unibody and Retina's that's not as easy to get around.

Then we have iCloud! This is what ties the system to the Internet in a couple of ways. For you it's a serious road block using this system.

So while your friend doesn't remember her account info it's something she can correct following this guide from Apple If you forgot your Apple Account password then once that's done she can release the system by erasing the drive fully following this What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac

Then the system is yours!

Please tell me shortly: Buy it or not?

@gumciapl - That doesn't alter iCloud.

Your system has a hardware assigned ID MAC Address which can be thought of as being your Cellphone's IMEI so no matter where in the world you travel your phone is findable! When we attach a phone number to it, think it like binding the iCloud ID to the MAC address.

Now what's important here is your use and where you are is trackable by the iCloud account and the system can be locked remotely as well. So you really need to cut the cord this person has to the system and it's not that hard following the steps outlined in the Blue URL's I posted.

As far as what macOS can you use OCLP allows you to go pass the Apple supported versions (here that's Catalina 10.15.x) you could install any one of these Monterey (10.12.x), Ventura (10.13.x), or Sonoma (10.14.x).

@danj All you told didn’t answer my question.

Official way of unlocking it is not availbe like i already told you.

So im asking again: will i be able to bypass/erase Apple account like i did it with older MBPs(2011 and older) ?

@gumciapl - Which one? User account, Firmware Lock or iCloud?

I ran thru them explained each one. iCloud can't be removed on the system it must be via the original user following the first Blue URL link.

You stated "I can buy MBP mid 2012 from my friend, she own that mbp for years but doesn’t remember password for icloud."

If she goes to an Apple Store they should be able to help her to release the iCloud linkage to this system.

That's the best I can offer you. Maybe you should pass on the deal as it's sounding like this is not the orginal users system.

@danj Yeah man, thanks for all answers.

Im just little disappointed because i like those older MBPs. I will just stay with my current MBP2011 and look for healthy MBP2012.
