Repair guide and support for the 2018 Toyota Highlander. The Highlander is a midsized SUV with a V6 engine, marketed as a family vehicle.

Faulty Transmission, on my Toyota Highlander 2018

My toyota highlander shows the transmission fluid light on. I turned off the car, and topped it with fluids. Later, the car started misfiring. The performance has reduced. I think the transmission is faulty. Any help or possible solutions, Can it be fixed or do i need a new transmission? What could have possibly caused this problem?

@kwekschibuchi the best way of finding a working answer is by you having the OBDII for your Highlander scanned. That way you should get a few error codes. You can post those codes on here and we can then help you to narrow it down.

Without scanning your vehicle every answer will really only by a guess since there are just to many variables for this. Not sure where in this world you are located, but if you are in the USA stores like Autozone and many more offer free scanning.

The car has been scanned multiple times, no error code was found. But i can hear some whizzing sounds coming from the transmission side. Yet the car's performance has reduced. The inlet of the transmission fluid was opened, and the oil smells different; it smells burnt. Someone is suggesting that the transmission fibre could be burnt. How accurate could it be?

@kwekschibuchi if nothing else, I would at least consider a good transmission service. That of course includes a complete draining of the fluid and filter change. Or consider a complete transmission flush. Not sure where you are located but you can always check with a good transmission shop and see what they think. I would also suggest to check the line pressures on your transmission since that will be the best indicator. Do that/have it done after a good service.

If there is no code popping up, it is either because that particular scanner can't read all of the Toyota specific codes or this "malfunction" just hasn't tripped the error detection.

Not sure what is meant by this "transmission fibre" so I can't comment on that. Let us know what engine size your Highlander is. There are two type of AT for the 2018 model. There is a 6 speed and an 8 speed transmission. The 6-speed automatic is paired with the 2.7L four-cylinder engine on the base LE model. The 8-speed automatic is paired with the 3.5L V6 engine.

@kwekschibuchi the most likely transmission your Highlander has is the UA80E
