RS27T5200SG Ice maker not automatically dumping ice

The auger/dispenser seem to be working fine, but the ice maker is not cycling automatically. I've done all of the obvious troubleshooting (cycled power, checked that ice maker is on, bucket in place, water line open, etc.) The test button functions properly - sensor arm comes down, it dumps the ice, refills, and chimes. Surprisingly, I removed the ice bucket and it started automatically dumping ice like normal. I'm not sure what could be the issue because the sensor arm isn't contacting the ice bucket when it is there.

  • Check for Jams:
    • Manually check the ice maker and ice storage bin for any jammed or frozen ice cubes. Remove any obstructions you find.
  • Inspect the Heating Element:
    • A malfunctioning heating element can prevent the ice from releasing. Test with a multimeter in ohms mode if you get OL; the heater is likely faulty, and you may need to replace the ice maker assembly.

* Verify the Water Level:

  • Make sure the water level in the ice maker is appropriate. Too much or too little water can cause issues with the ice formation and release.

* Check the Ejector Blades:

  • Ensure the ejector blades are moving freely and haven't become bent or damaged.

* Examine the Fill Tube:

  • Ice buildup in the fill tube can prevent water from properly entering the ice maker. If necessary, defrost the freezer or thaw the fill tube.

Ice makers are the most common part to fail on a refrigerator

If you can't identify the source of the issue, the entire assembly for the RS27T5200SG is widely available between $100-150 USD

None of those can be the issue because it's functioning properly when I press the test button. It also functions properly when the ice bucket is removed.

I just replaced the ice maker and the same issue is occuring. This leads me to believe it's something telling the controls that the ice bucket is full when it's installed. Like I said, the arm that comes down before dumping the ice isn't contacting the ice bucket, so it's not that. Is there another sensor somewhere? Is there something else that connects to the ice bucket that could be faulty?

@jr1234 it’s very likely the sensor that tells it to stop ejecting cubes is not communicating with the control board or giving a false bin full signal

I replaced the entire ice maker part and nothing changed. I agree it must be something telling the board not to eject. Can you tell me what other sensor that could be specifically? The arm that comes down doesn't seem to be contacting the ice bucket or something physical like that.

@jr1234, It might be having an issue with the PCBN itself. it's hard to say you could film a video showing what it does and i'd probably be able to diagnose it better then
