4.5 Cu Ft Washer Internal Hose Leak is a Recurring Problem

My Sears Kenmore Elite 4.5 cubic feet washer model # is 796.41482411. It's based on an LG 4.5 cubic feet washer model number ?, but the Sears version has slightly souped up (by Sears) programming to allow use of slightly more water and electricity (for harder/faster agitation). This allows it to get loads done faster.

There's an internal rubber hose that liquids use to travel from soap, bleach, and fabric softener dispensers to the drum.

This rubber hose sprange a leak on the side nearest the drum. Apparently the drum rubs on the hose when the drum moves during spin cycle if/when a load is out of balance. This rubbed a hole in the hose.

This will be the 4th time this has happened in 8 years! Each time I replace the hose with the correct, new, stock OEM LG hose. At least I think I've been buying the correct OEM hose for replacements.

From Amazon Prime, shipped by Amazon, seller Parts-4-Less I have been buying (a supposedly) OEM LG part #4738ER1004B hose.

Is that the correct hose? Is there another/better/updated hose that I should buy?

I don't want to keep having a hose failure every 16 to 24 months. The original hose lasted 3 years, but even that was ridiculous! The replacement hoses have been lasting only 16-24 months.

Is there a another/newer model of LG hose that resolves this issue? Is there a good/aftermarket upgrade solution?

16 months ago I filed off ridges and sharp edges from exterior of drum where the hose might rub. I also positioned hose to reduce rubbing. It didn't help.

16 months later the problem has recurred again!

Please provide advice for to improve the situation, if you can. I'd like a good longterm solution that's reliable. Much thanks for your time!

Hi @adcsrh56t1eyf6d

These two major parts suppliers show that the part number for the dispenser hose (aka washer bellows) is 4738ER1004B as you posted. supplier 1 supplier 2

Does the machine stop when an out of balance condition occurs or does it keep on working?

I can't find a free download for the service sheet which would help to find out if there is another problem with the washer that may be the cause of the problem. The part number is MHK63813712 It would have the diagnostic test procedures to test all the functions of the washer etc.

When out of balance, it stops and reverses directions several times to try to get it as balanced as possible. Then continues spinning with it better balanced, though maybe not perfectly balanced. Most of my loads spin at fastest spin speed.

AFAIK the washer is functioning properly, but the hose gets rubbed and doesn't hold up longterm. My cousin DIY replaced the hose twice before. My local appliance repair shop replaced it once. Same hose each time. Same short lifespan each time.

My cousin says it's the goodneck part of the hose that hangs down near the drum and gets rubbed by the drum. Is it necessary to have a gooseneck in the hose? Could we buy another hose that does not have a gooseneck? If so, how could I find a compatible fit hose without a gooseneck?
