Washer squeal during initial fill cycle only

My washing machine makes an ear piercing sequel only during the initial fill cycle. The noise also only happens when a full load of laundry is put in. Anything less than about a full load and the noise usually doesn't happen. The noise happens every time the agitator moves during the initial fill cycle until about half of the drum fills with water. At that point the squeak starts to taper off and eventually stops before the fill is done. The noise does not come back during the second or third fill cycle of the same load of laundry.
