Repair guides and disassembly information for the MacBook Pro 16'' released in November of 2019. Model A2141, EMC 3347.

My MacBook Pro sometimes will randomly send me to recovery mode!

Hi everyone, ever since I ran bootcamp on my Macbook, I've been have issues that I can't figure out. Sometimes when I shut down or restart my laptop, the boot screen will flash with white lines and send me to recovery mode! Then I have to wipe my SSD, reinstall Mac OS, and hope it doesn't give me another issue.

I would go to Mac OS to make it my boot disk, and I clicked on that, it restarted, and BAM! BACK IN RECOVERY!

I deleted my Bootcamp partition after all of this, and still don't know exactly what the problem is. It hasn't sent me to Mac OS recovery mode in a while, but my screen will occasionally flash black for not even a second while I'm using the Machine.

I've been asking my dad for help with this situation, he works with the Macs, and HE can't even figure it out!

Here's a few things he think it MAY be:

  • I have it plugged in most of the time (The battery sucks on it)
  • It's the Intel i9, 64 GB of RAM model
  • The ribbon cable for the screen may be loose
  • It's used

I don't really want to spend $1,000 on repairs on an intel machine that's going to be obsolete in a few years.

I really want to figure out how to fix this, or do something about it!

Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it!

You may want to setup an external boot drive with the version of MacOS you want to use installer. Here using the external as your boot drive completely deleting the partitions and rebuild them from within Disk Utility. There are some hidden partitions which maybe messed up. Make sure anything of importance is backed up first.

Thank you for this advice! I'll try this soon,

but does this mean that the boot partition is corrupted?

Just asking!

@pjculkin - Well sorta! The newer APFS file system uses tables held independently of the main visible partition (the hidden partitions) this is where the corruption is likely. here's a good write up on GUID MBR vs GPT: Understanding the Key Differences in Partitioning.
