Google Pixel 5a getting hot after screen replacement

I replaced the screen on my Google Pixel 5a a few days ago. Everything went well except I think I accidentally turned the phone on after removing the screen. I tried turning it off, but couldn't be sure until I got the new screen on. I had a little difficulty connecting the new screen connector, but eventually got it on and reassembled the phone.

Immediately after the replacement, with no other changes, the phone gets very warm underneath the fingerprint sensor and battery life is reduced (~8 hours) to about 25% of the pre-screen change battery life (~36 hours). I don't think the battery capacity has changed, but something is using much more energy post-screen change.

Does anyone have an idea of what may have happened causing the excessive heating? Could I have damaged something electrically when re-connecting the screen connector if the phone was on?
