Phone stops charging after few minutes.

Hey! I have a Samsung Galaxy A06. I recently bought a 45 Watts charger that has USB-C on both sides (don't know if that's relevant).

The problem is: the phone starts fast-charging when I connect the charger (tops at about 18W) but after a minute or two the current drops to less than 3 watts and sometimes even goes negative (discharging). I measured it with AccuBattery.

I tested with another charger and tested the charger with another phone. It doesn't work. Currently I can only charge it with the phone turned off.

I don't know if the battery is good or bad, since this is a second-hand phone. AccuBattery states 95% health.

Hi @kaigo

How long does the phone work when on battery power only after charging the battery?

If only a short while I would consider replacing the battery and then check if it works better.

@kaigo

Try charging the phone in safe mode and check if it charges OK.

If it does then a downloaded app may be the cause of the problem e.g. it may be doing a lot in the background that you're not aware of and the charger can't handle charging the battery and running the phone simultaneously.

A downloaded app is one that you downloaded and installed on the phone and wasn't pre-installed on the phone when you first got it.

The trick is finding out which one it is.

If it is still no good in safe mode you may have to consider performing a factory reset so as to isolate whether it is a hardware or a software problem.

Be sure to backup the phone to a computer or the cloud before performing the reset and also if there's a Google or Samsung account associated with the phone make sure you know the account's User ID and password so that you can setup the phone after the reset has been done. If you don't remember it you'll be locked out due to the FRP lock being enabled in the phone.

If it works OK after the factory reset, restore the phone to what it was before the reset, using the backup you created earlier and then check if it is still OK.

If it still doesn't work OK after a factory reset, then there's a hardware problem. You'll need the schematics to find out where the problem is. Unfortunately I can't find any online, you may have better luck

It actually lasts for quite a while. I think I can get about 9 hours with moderate usage (long streaming with 10ish brightness).

I would have already replaced the battery if it weren't for that.

And like I said, it does charge pretty fast when it's turned off. Definetly more than normal chargers.

Will try to do these things. Thank you!
